Other
Camps and Clinics
On December 28-30, Lindsay Gardner will be holding
a clinic in SW Wisconsin
Gardner begins her first season as assistant coach for St. Edward’s(Texas).
She will be working with base running, infield, pitcher and catchers and
short-game strategy. Gardner comes to the Hilltop after holding the head
coaching job at Riesel High School. She led the team to a third place
finish in district. Five players were named to the all-district team.
Prior to that, Gardner was a volunteer assistant at the University of
Houston in 2005, and an assistant coach at Concordia University.
On the playing field, Gardner was a four-year starter for the University
of Texas from 2000-2003. Her freshman season she was named Big 12 Conference
Freshman of the Year. She led the conference in batting average and on-base
percentage. During her career as a Longhorn, she was named to the Big
12 all-conference team three times, conference all-tournament team three
times, NCAA Midwest Region team three times. She was also named Easton
first-team all-america and National Fastpitch Coaches Association second-team
all-america. Gardner holds school records for hits in one game (4, vs.
Hofstra, Feb. 12, 2000), home runs (2, vs. UT-San Antonio, Feb. 6, 2000),
longest hitting streak (16 games, from April 6, 2000 vs. Baylor to May
12, 2000 vs. Oklahoma) and hits in one season (83).
Gardner also played for the USA National Team from 2001-2003. She played
second base and left field, where she was fourth on the team in batting
average (.375). She helped the team win U.S. Cup in Hawaii in 2001, claim
third in the Canada Cup in 2001 and second in 2002.
This (past) summer she began her fourth season for the Rockford Thunder
(formerly the Texas Thunder) of the National Pro Fastpitch League. She
was the first ever NPF Player of the Week and NPF Defensive Player of
the Year.
Gardner just signed a glove endorsement deal with Nokona: a well-known
American-made glove company. This is taken from her bio: http://www.stedwards.edu/athletic/athletic_staff/lindsay_gardner.htmlCurrently,
the clinic is only open to coaches. The coach's audit fee is $30 and this
includes a packet of drills and information with ideas to help your team
and working with softball players. The coaches clinic is Friday the 28
and will last about60 - 90 minutes. Saturday, the clinic will be held
at the Barneveld school (with the participants) and will cover offensive
and defensive skills and strategies. Sunday will be at the Mineral Point
High School and will cover bunting/slapping, base running and thinking
a couple plays ahead.
We chose to bring Lindsay in for a clinic because, after watching her
play for Rockford Thunder, she not only is very talented, she brings a
lot of fun to her game. My niece also speaks very highly of her and has
played with her on her ASA team, at UT Austin and now again for Rockford
Thunder.
If anyone is interested, please send me a note or call me at (608)574-0739.
Feel free to pass on to any other interested coaches.
Thank you!
